the Royal Birkdale

The Open is going on next door, in Southport. Today they are expecting more ghastly weather. Quote from the Guardian: "This is actually a typical British summer: very unsettled, breezy and wet at times. We are looking at possibly 45mph winds and some pretty hefty showers, which won't be very pleasant at all".

July, not singing

July in the north west of England is really something special. Gives a different perspective to life, indoors, fires, water spotting, and I can't even watch the cricket and the golf on the tv, which is what I usually do in july when I happen to be in this country, as I am stupid enough not to have one. Moaning time big time (seriously it is unbelievable the amount of rain the powers above dare pour on this otherwise estimable city).
